You should have been with me.
I was among the guests at a beer and appetizer tasting held at Chef Henry's, an excellent restaurant 20 minutes from my door with a decidedly haute cuisine take on cajun.
The event was sponsored by Abita Micro Brewery located on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana and each dish was carefully coordinated with one of the craft brewery's beers.
I was in heaven! After reading the menu, you might understand why!
Strawberry jalapeno glazed scallops
with white chocolate liquer
complemented by Abita Strawberry Harvest Lager (a delicious light beer with a dry strawberry parfum)
Pulled duck with a sage Gouda polenta
and a red zinfandel paint
complimented by Abita Amber (wonderful full bodied beer, the company's flagship brew)
Spanish white anchovy
w/ smoked tomato coulis, capers & parmesan crisp
Complimented by
Abita Jockamo India Pale Ale (many felt it was overly bitter from the hops, though typical of IPA's)
Roasted wild boar sausage
w/ green peppercorn mustard & apricot horseradish
Served with Abita Turbodog (a delicious brown ale)
Chocolate petit four
with expresso creme anglaise
Served with
Abita Purple Haze(a raspberry based wheat beer that was just a touch too fizzy for my liking)
A descriptive statement in turn from the brewery rep and the restaurant's service staff between each course gave everyone a nicely enhanced appreciation of the dishes and the beer chosen to compliment them.
All together, it was a delightfully adventurous evening of culinary treats and drink, with plenty of pleasant socializing between the guests.
For anyone visiting the North Atlanta area...
...it's definitely worth the foray into beautiful and historic downtown Acworth and a visit to Henry's Louisiana Grill on Main Street (reservations a must on weekends!)
Henry himself circulates through the place through out the evening and is quite a wonderful character you'll most certainly enjoy meeting

It is such a treat to see the old, tired buildings that I frequented as a kid (for hair cuts, Dr. appointments, softball cleats, you name it!) being revitalized to show what an amazing place Acworth has always been. And Henry's is the icing on the cake! The food is to die for, the atmosphere and hospitality is truly heart warming, and Chef Henry is probably one of the nicest and most genuine people you could ever hope to meet. In one word ... AWESOME!!!

The Perry Clan voted this fine establishment as the best run, best organized, best menu, best service and nicest "head dude" ever! We only wish we lived closer. We'll be back!!
Even our dear certified therapy dog thought it was cool!

Henry, Your restaurant was recommended to us from our instructor in Smyrna. I'm from Michigan and not familiar with Louisiana cooking but gratefully I am now. The food was great and your staff did an excellent job. GREAT SUCCESS

Our experience for dinner at Henrys was a classic example of what a customer should expect in a top notch restaurant! We had reservations at five thirty and were seated immediately. Received our drinks and then appetizers within five min of ordering. As we were finishing the appetizers our salads arrived. In about thirteen minutes after finishing the salad our entrees arrived. All food was hot when received. Our waiter Adam and the kitchen did a fabulous job of timing. The food all fit the Cajun theme of cooking and was done well. Gumbo, flash fried scallops on crispy spinach with blue cheese and the Louisiana Ooh La La with all three seafoods. Plenty of food in that we had to order our desserts to go for tomorrows pleasures. Its tomorrow and the desserts were five star delicious! Chef Henry came by and chatted with us all too. Kudos to Chef Henry and his awesome staff! *****

In a word, excellent! What a great find, and close to home, but well worth the drive from any part of town for Cajun cooking as great as this establishment offers. The terrific service and ambience served to complement the meal as well, not to mention the level of commitment Henry Chandler, Proprietor and Chef exudes.

Great atmosphere and the friendliest staff in the South! Brought my wife, four year old daughter, sister and Dad two weekends ago for dinner. We all thoroughly enjoyed the food and had the lucky honor of being included in the filming of Henrys new TV commercial. Can't beat that! We love getting there early for a drink or two at the bar while waiting.

Hey homeboy! Man, I would have never guessed that the bushy haired lil bro of one of my best friends would survive the combination of wild streak and motorcycle to become a seriously talented and respectable sho nuff chef. I am delighted to admit that I was short sighted...at least about the chef part. Best dam cookin I have found since leaving Loozianna! Keep it up! Nuff said.

We were in Acworth for a baseball tournament last weekend. Instead of going to a fast food place between games, I wanted to know where my family and I could go and sit down for a nice lunch. I heard everyone goes to Henrys. Now I know why. Wonderful food and great atmosphere. We need one in Dalton, GA.
